Introduction about the Arab Orthodox
Club (AOC)
In 1963, the Arab Orthodox Club
(AOC) was established with a general assembly of 180 member. The club is located
in downtown Beit Sahour in the region of Bethlehem. At present, there are more than two thousand member ranging from age 18 to 75. Thirty percent are women. Membership
includes people from both Christian and Muslim traditions. AOC is licensed by
the Ministry of Youth and Sport in the Palestinian National Authority under no. 404.
The AOC, as a non-profit, local,
community organization, is the largest in Beit Sahour. It is run by an administrative
board which supervises the various committees; Sport, Scouts, Culture, Arts, Women
and Social Committees. The administration, which is elected every 2 years by the
general assembly, supervises, shares and takes part in the Club’s activities and
at the same time raises funds for vairous activities and for the Club’s projects.
Main activities of the AOC includes:

Scouts group for children and youth (500 members, from 6 years and up)

Sports activities, such as football, ping pong, voleyball and basketball for both
boys and rirls. (270) members

Social activities such as clebrations on national and religious holiday

Chess team

Publication of a quarterly magazine “Beit Sahour Magazine”

Voluntary community service activities, such as planting trees and cleaning streets

Dabke group (traditional Palestinian dance)
